Movies and Cars and Jobs and TV, OH MY!

Wednesday, June 15, 2005
Well Batman Begins comes out today, and I've heard only good things about it, so I'm super excited to see it. I'll post about it after I see it. I saw Mr. & Mrs. Smith twice over the weekend, and I liked it a lot. Very funny. I would recommend it if you don't mind some mild sex jokes, and lots of action. Very violent, but very little blood. I installed a new cd player in my truck, all by myself. I was pretty nervous, because I had to actually rewire it, but I found my dad's tools, and it worked out perfectly, so that's fun. Now I don't have to sing to myself everywhere I go. A guy contacted me through the school, about doing some video editing work for him, and I went down to SLC yesterday to talk to him about it, and it sounds like I'll be able to do it. Yay, more mulah! Hopefully it'll pay pretty good, I don't know yet. I also need to get to work on my sister's wedding video. I was up pretty late the other night scanning in pictures, to include, so that's a little progress, but the main part still awaits. I was at my friend Amy's house the other day, and we were looking for something to do, and we started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, on DVD. Now I'm hooked. Whenever I go down there, we watch an episode or two, if nothing else is going on, and I've almost finished season 1. Crazy, crazy. Yup. Life goes on.

Bummer

Tuesday, May 31, 2005
Well, I was visiting Brittney and Amy at their apartment down in West Valley, and ended up staying really late. Since I wasn't home very often anymore, I packed up my Camelback with some stuff like, my digital video camera, a microphone for band practice, toothbrush, compass (I like to know where I am!), my planner, my brightest flashlight, etc. I left it in my truck that night, and I didn't feel like going out to get it, so I didn't. I ended up sleeping on their couch. The next day, I came out to my truck for something, and the driver side door was open. The front of my stereo was broken off and gone, and my backpack, with all it's contents was gone. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Apparently they were in a hurry or something, because they didn't get the whole stereo out. It's in there real good. They didn't take my cds which were just sitting there too, so that's weird. So, yeah. Royal bummer. I've been asked by my mother to make a video for my sister's wedding, and I had started it, but now I was cameraless, so my mom said that she figured that she would have had to pay someone about $300 to make the video, and she would give me that much for a new camera so I could do it. Yes. So now I have a new camera, which is basically the same as my old one, just a newer model. I still have to replace the mic, which was my sister's. Ho Hum.

Yeeeooooowwch

Friday, May 06, 2005
So this week started out weird. Monday was my dad's birthday, so the day started pretty fun. Then I had school as normal, but then when I went to work at Grizzly Graphics (did I previously mention that I'm working there now?) Well, when I got there I found out that John, the guy that has worked with Kenny (the owner) the longest, had died that morning of a heart attack. So it was a pretty hard day that way. I'd only known him for two weeks, but he was a cool guy. He did a lot of things there, that now Andy, Kenny, Debbie or I will have to learn to do. Well, I finished my jobs, and Debbie suggested that I make a birthday banner for my dad. So I got it all designed on the computer, then Andy printed it out on this plastic canvas stuff we use. He started cutting it out, and I was on the other side of the worktable, so I started helping him. I took the straight edge after he was done with it, and the utility knife and lined it up on the edge. Andy said "Don't cut your finger off!" I put the knife by the edge and slid it back. What I didn't realize was that, holding down the straight-edge with my left hand, my pointer finger was slightly over the edge. When I pulled the knife back, ZOOOP, I sliced the corner of my finger right off! Gaaah! I said "Andy! I just cut my finger off!" He laughed and started looking for something to put on it. I was following him around, dripping blood, when Jim Devries walked in. We told him what happened, and he went and got his First Aid kit. Now Jim is constantly getting hurt it seems, so he's used to bandaging himself and others up, but he's also much tougher than me. He got a piece of gauze with something on it and put it on my finger and started squeezing. I had already started getting nauseous, but that hurt sooooo bad, and just made me feel sicker. He kept working on it, then he cranked down on it even harder, and fwooo, I passed out. I guess I just can't handle that much pain. Ever since the axe incident. I woke up on the floor with Andy and Jim looking at me and laughing. Jim finished bandaging me, and I just layed on the floor for a while where it was nice and cool. Fweew. The rest of the week's been pretty boring.

NEW JOB!

Wednesday, April 27, 2005
Hey, I finally got a new job! I'm working for Grizzly Graphics, doing computer stuff. I'm laying out banners, designing logos, stuff like that. I generally use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and a little bit of 3ds Max. It's great fun. My coworker/boss hasn't arrived yet, so I'm not sure yet what he wants me to do today. Last night I got to go Swing Dancing with Leah, ReAnne, Ryan Woods, and Craig (he's in the club). It was great fun. Last time I went by myself, and that was no good, so having an actual partner makes all the difference. Leah's lots of fun to dance with.

Yay!

Wednesday, April 13, 2005
Ok, so yesterday I got in to my truck eventually. We called the security guy, because he has all these tools for opening cars. But after trying a few different things, he couldn't get it. So he left. I went down to the Cosmotology School here on campus, and "borrowed" one of their coat hangers, and fashioned it into a special tool. Eh eh eh. I managed to get my wire, through the back passenger side window, and jimmy it open, then I used it to reach up to the lock on that side. I got it down in the door through the crack around the lock knob, and hooked it under the knob, and pulled it up. Whoohoo! So that took a while, but it was a nice feeling of accomplishment. So, I went home, and later my sister proposed a bike ride. So I put some air in my front tire, we hopped on our bikes, rode down to Red Moose Lodge to meet up with my other sister, Jayne, and her hubby, then we rode down the road the the North Arm Trail, which runs around the west end of the lake. It was a little muddy in some spots, and I ran out of water halfway through the ride, but it was lots of fun. A good workout, although my rear is sore today. I need to adjust my bike saddle. Yowch. Tomorrow I'm gonna go in to Grizzly Graphics to see if I'm hired yet. Cross your fingers!

Me

Tuesday, April 12, 2005
Ok, so I'm dumb. I locked my keys in my truck. Gosh. I hate me sometimes. Hopefully I can find someone with a hanger or a slimjim or something. I could do it with a hanger, but I have a special way of doing it. I don't know how to use a slim jim. Bother. I saw Sahara this weekend, and I liked it a lot. It was kinda long, but definately entertaining. And surprisingly clean! Not completely, of course, but hardly any bad language, and no sex. So, yes, I recommend it. I was on my mission web site, and I found one of the guys from one of my zones, who's really cool, and it turns out that he's living in Utah, and he's married with a kid! Crazy cakes. So I emailed him, and he wrote me back, so I gotta call him now. Fun beans. Tchau!

Truck

Friday, April 08, 2005
My truck is starting to be a little pain again. I'm still glad I got it, but little things keep happening, and I'm afraid something big might happen soon. Just out of bad luck. Today I left my headlights on again, and my battery died again. Luckily, a lady in my class had jumper cables, and helped me out. This is the third time I've done it. True, this isn't really the truck's fault, but I'm used to driving our Subaru, and it's headlights turned off automatically. Also, I think a new battery might help. It doesn't take too long for this one to die. My engine's pretty dirty too, from driving through the mud puddles on my driveway every day. I can't wait 'til it dries up. Supposedly my dad's going to get it paved this summer too, and that would be awsome. Our band is sounding good. We practiced last night, and our main song, Don't Follow, sounds great. Yup!

Stuff

Friday, April 01, 2005
Today I'm pretty tired, since I was up 'til about three. I got home around two something last night, then I started playing a game. Dang computer. Then this morning, I automatically woke up at 8:30, which is good, because I couldn't hear my watch alarm in the other room. Then my brother wanted a ride to the Powder Mountain shuttle, so he could be there by 10, so he could teach ski lessons. So I had to leave home early. Blah. I was wanting to go down to Happy Valley today, to check out Glyphx. It's a game company in Orem, and I wanted to go see if they would talk to me, and let me look around, maybe check for job opportunities. You never know. I also just wanted to see what BYU's animation department is like. Supposedly they have some kind of supercomputer there. Hmmm. BUT, anyway, I'm too tired, and I think I'd need to leave in the morning. So I think I'm gonna have to take a day off, and go down next week. In other job related news, my dad was talking to his old friend, and current bishop, Kenny Wright, who owns a screenprinting and advertising company. One of his sons is leaving on a mission in a week or so, so they'll need a new guy. Someone who knows the computer programs. Which I do! So they kind of offered the job to me, through my dad, but they were on their way to Las Vegas, where they are today still, so hopefully when they get back, I'll be able talk to them about that. I've always wanted to work with them, so it's pretty cool. The other son who works there is Andy, who is my age. We've basically known each other our whole lives. We were even roommates in the MTC, by chance. So, It'd be fun to work with him, I think. And now for something completely different. Last night I got together with Matt Evans, Chad, Amy, Aubrey, Mellissa, and Chad's friend Scott, and we jammed in a little room in Chad's basement. It was crowded, loud, we kept having technical difficulties, and it was super fun. We practiced our main song for the talent show, and tried a couple others. The three girls are putting together a song or two also for the show, and they sang for us. Pretty awesome harmonies, and Mellissa played guitar, so it was way cool. I brought my trombone and trumpet, and played around with them a little, so that was kinda fun too. Mainly I just focused on my harmonica though. I keep discovering new things about playing it, so it's getting better. Chuck says there's a girl at the Credit Union where he works that he wants to set me up with, so we'll see how that goes. I've only been on one or two blind dates before, so yeah. Um, check out this band! www.gogo13.com if you're an Aquabats fan at all, or if you just like fun music. Also I just heard about The Shins, and they sound pretty cool too. www.theshins.com. Kind of like Modest Mouse, but not so weird. Wow that was a long post! Ok, see ya later!

MUSIC!

Monday, March 21, 2005
This girl in my ward, Aubrey, was having some people over to her house to jam, and she heard that I play harmonica, so she invited me too. So, Chad Phillips, Matt Evans, Amy Todd, Brittney, and I went to her house the other night. When we got there, in her living room, they had a full drum set, some guitars and a bass, amps, mics, and a piano, all ready to go. Sweet. She talked her dad into playing drums for us (which wasn't very hard), and he was awsome. Chad and Matt got on the guitars, and I sat down with my Harmonica and a mic. The girls sang and danced around. A splendid time was had by all. We started out with Wild Thing, which isn't too tough. Aubrey's uncle Rusty, showed up shortly after we started and picked up a guitar too. Matt evans tried the bass, and really liked it, so he was figuring out how to play that the rest of the night, and had a good time. We did Spoonfull, Crossroads, Wooly Bully, Fight for your Right, Blackbird, and just some blues jammin'. It felt so great to actually contribute to musical creation. They kept trying to play Satisfaction, but it wasn't working out. So then we remembered that there's a ward talent show at the end of the month, so we decided to put together a song for that. Matt, Chad and I are gonna play a song by Alice in Chains, that has a lot of harmonica in it, so that should be cool. I just gotta learn my part, because I didn't know the song before. Good times. We'll see how it goes.

Free stuff?

Friday, March 18, 2005
hey guys, I'm thinking about trying for one of the free offers on this website. I've read many reviews, and I know it works. I would just have to decide which one I want to do, then fulfill one of the offers, then get like five more people to sign up. I can't decide if I want to go for the Sony PSP, or an iPod. Let me know what you think, and if you're interested in helping me out!

Zaphod Beeblebrox

Wednesday, March 16, 2005
Hey all. I just got back from California, Monday night. We had a pretty fun trip. Chuck had never seen the ocean before, so we went to Huntington Beach, and Newport Beach, and some tide pools. It was cloudy the whole time we were there, so it wasn't as warm as I hoped, but still fun. Tess and chuck played in the water a bit, and we all played in the sand with Max and Lily, the little cousins. They're some funny kids. On the way home, we stopped at the Cali/Nevada stateline, at the factory outlets there, and shopped a bit. I got some Air Hogs planes, which are very cool. If anybody wants to play with them with me, and you know where there's a very large grassy place, let me know! Hopefully I'll get some pictures of the trip posted pretty quick here so stay tuned! Oh, and if you were wondering what the title of this post means, then you need to read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and/or watch the movie which is coming soon to a theater near you! (The title really has nothing to do with what I've said today, it just sounds funny.)

Today is gonna be the day...

Monday, March 07, 2005
Church was quite interesting yesterday, since we were visited by a group of Born Again Christians. Nice people, they just wanted to see what our church was like. One of them gave the closing prayer in Elder's Quorum, and it was interesting. Not too bad, just much more emotional that we would usually do it. Reminds me of my mission. Crentes locos. One of the spark plug wires in my truck was sparking, and the rubber on it was old and cracking, so I went to AutoZone and bought some new ones, but for some reason I was thinking my engine was only four cylinders, when it actually has six. So I bought the wrong wires, so today I'm going to take them back and get the right ones. Hopefully after I change them, my truck will run better too. I'm also afraid that the brake pads need changing, since the brakes are acting weird too. Oh bother.

More life

Friday, March 04, 2005
Chuck and Tess and my Mom invited me to go with them to California in a week, for a few days, so I'm really excited for that. I haven't been on a real trip in over a year, and I love going to Cali. We're going to visit my Aunt Bethany and her family, which is cool. My little cousin Lily and I are buddies (see photo below). Yay! Chuck's never been to the coast before, so that's the main reason we're going. Other than that, my life's been pretty boring lately. Ho-hum.

The Capybara

Friday, February 25, 2005
For those of you that don't know, I have an online comic strip called "The Capybara". I finally updated it again today, so check it out: http://capybara.keenspace.com. I don't know if you'll think it's funny or not, but I like it. Be sure and start at the beginning of the series. Everyday I'm more and more motivated to move out of my parents house. Mostly because my dad wont let us play video games, or watch movies in his house. Meh. One of these days!

Dane Cook!

Wednesday, February 23, 2005
Hey guys. I was just thinking about one of my favorite comedians, Dane Cook. This is a funny guy. A lot. I just happened to see him on Comedy Central one time, and I was hooked. Check out http://www.DANECOOK.com. Watch out for some bad language, but soooo funny. I would recommend the Bar Mitzvah clip. Awsome. I spent a few hours yesterday vacuuming my dad's building downtown. It was a mess. I hope to be moving in there soon, if I get another job. It's free rent, but I have to pay for utilites, and I can't even afford that. Pretty sad. But SOON, hopefully. It's my sister's birthday today, and my mom made me get up at like 7:15, so Cami could open presents before they went to school. Gaaaaaah. At least I got a hot breakfast though. That's a pretty good reason to get up early. ReAnne and I went and saw the movie In Good Company last night. I thought it was a good movie, but not because it made you feel good. It was more like a Feel Life movie, if you know what I mean. One guy has a great family life, but he gets demoted at his job and a really young guy takes his place. The young guy's career is taking off, but his wife leaves him, and his personal life is the pits. I would recommend it as a rental. Good acting, and characters. Very realistic. Ok, peace out.

Moolah!

Tuesday, February 22, 2005
Yay, I can pay my bills this month! I went to the ATM yesterday, just to see if I had any money in there, and there was over $400 in there! My tax return came! Yay! So now I can make my truck payment, and my insurance too hopefully. Fweew. Last night, hanging out with ReAnne, I kept laughing for no reason. I don't know why! We'd be sitting there talking, or whatever, and then I'd just start laughing at nothing. I don't know what it was, but it sure was funny. :P I finally finished learning the Painter program, and today I'm gonna do a final project for that, and then I just have to finish my final project for the class! Then I just have a couple other short classes and I'm done! Woohoo! Hey all you who are reading this, you are more than welcome to leave comments, so hop to it! Yay!

A random picture of my cousin Lily and I, at the 4th of July. Posted by Hello

Hmmmmm

Well, a couple weeks ago, my dad decided that he wanted his house to be like it was a while back, meaning no videos or Computer games. This, to me, is the pits. Videos I could deal with, but it's hard not being able to play my games. So, yesterday I made my argument to mom. Besides the fact that they're just fun, and I like them, I may be going into the video game industry, and my friend Adam and I were going to make our own game using the Half-Life 2 Source engine. But I don't own that game, and I don't know very well how it works, so I can't make my own version. Also, games are my best form of stress relief. I didn't have much stress up until now, in my life, but lately I've had some things that cause me to be stressed. Well, mom had an idea. Maybe if I put in 8 hours a day, working towards my future, meaning earning money, or doing schoolwork, or something else constructive, AND if my household duties were taken care of, then I could play games. This sounded too restrictive to me at first, but now I kind of like the idea. I need some more motivation to move forward with my life. So if my dad agrees with this idea, then I will be much happier. Now I just gotta figure out how I'm gonna make the payment on my truck this month! Sorry about my whining, but sometimes you just gotta vent.

Mah Hair!

Wednesday, February 16, 2005
I got a haircut yesterday, and they cut it a lot shorter than I really wanted it, but it's not too bad. At least it's a lot easier to deal with now. I had such a mop before. Not much else going on. Just hangin' out. My friend Kami's birthday is today and we're having a party tonight, so that should be fun. Arrivederci!

Valentine's

Tuesday, February 15, 2005
I had a great Valentine's Days yesterday, because I had someone to spend it with, which is of course the reason for the holiday. It's much better than giving little Justice League valentine cards to all your friends, with conversation hearts taped to them. Heh heh. I had some plans to eat in my dad's unoccupied building, but I went to check it out before, and it was a big mess, so I decided to drop that idea for now. Instead, ReAnne and I went to dinner with my family. My mom made a nice Italian dinner for the whole family. It was way fun. Then ReAnne and I went back to her house and watched a video with the gang. Earlier that day we'd just been hanging out, and listening to her new Michael Buble cd, which is very good. So yeah good day. Today, hopefully, I'm finally going to get a haircut. I'm getting really shaggy. I'm also going to start getting my dad's building ready for me to move in. It's not exactly the best neighborhood, so I've got to be careful, and the building's kind of a mess, because some kids broke in and got stuff all over. So, I've gotta start cleaning it up, and get a bed there at least. Right now I just need somewhere to sleep when I'm too tired to go all the way home at night.

Stuff

Sunday, February 13, 2005
I've been looking for another job lately, so that I can afford my car insurance, and car payments, and tuition, and hopefully I'll be able to move out, into the apartment under my dad's small unoccupied office building. I just have to take care of the place as my rent, so that's nice, but I still need to pay for a phone, and some furnishings, and utilities. Soooo, I applied at OfficeMax, and I'm just waiting to hear from them. I was trying for BestBuy, where two of my friends work, but it didn't work out. Hopefully soon, I'll be done with my Animation certification, and I can start looking for a real job. Last night we went to see the new movie Hitch. Very funny, I highly recommend it. It had kind of a weird style, but it all made sense after a while. So yeah, go see it. Meanwhile, I need to start on my own movies. I have a few ideas, I just need to start realizing them.

Beans

Thursday, February 10, 2005
Well, I just got an email from my old friend Andrea. She told me she's getting married. I'm not sure how I feel about that. She's been dating another old friend of mine, Devon, but they didn't really know each other before they started dating, and I've know both of them for years. It's just weird, all these people getting married. Them, and my sister, are the current ones. Huh. Last night I had a fun Capoeira class with some of the Kimber Academy kids. I teach them once a week, and it's about the only practice I get too, so it's good. It seems that my parents and my three youngest siblings are going to be moving to Italy for a year or so, on a self appointed mission. Crazy. My dad has always had crazy ideas, but lately he's been doing them, so you never know what he's going to do next. And all his ideas are working! Crazy beans.

The first one!

Wednesday, February 09, 2005
Hi-Oh to anybody who's reading this. Just thought I'd start one of these to keep track of my many exciting adventures. (Ha!) I went skiing last night with Rich at Nordic Valley, and although my toes go soo cold that I literally couldn't feel them anymore, it was lots of fun. I hope today to finish with this textbook for the Painter program, so I can do a project for it, and move on! It's taking a lot longer than I thought it would. I also have to come up with enough money to pay another months tuition, by Friday, so I'm kinda stressed about that. We'll see how that goes. It stinks not having the money to do things I want, with my friends. They keep paying for me, and I feel bad. Well, hopefully I can do some work for my dad today, and the rest of the week. Bleah!
